My dog was originally a stray and scared of everything and we finally “worked out all her bugs” and then she had to go and get bitten and now she’s super reactive.

I just really wish more people didn’t let their dogs off leash in a leash law area. The thing I’m scared about though is she’s been bitten by off leash dogs before and obviously this is why she bit this other dog because it was a replay of the same scenario that has happened before and I’m basically scared it will happen again. I don’t see the trainer until sept 7 but I’m just guessing she will say to do muzzle training as we live in a very dog populated neighborhood and mistakes happen sometimes as far as peoples dogs getting out by accident. Legally it was not our fault because our dog was on leash and the other persons was not and the owner not even outside with the dog, but I still felt absolutely horrible about it and couldn’t sleep at night for quite awhile. It was pretty bad the dog had to have surgery. I was not there our dogs walker was walking her at the time. The middle strap can be awkward to fit properly, can flop in front of their eyes, and I think she said some dogs haaate the feel of something there so makes them more resistant to it? My trainer actually prefers not use the center strap between the eyes as long as the muzzle is fit correctly for the strap that goes around the back of their head (and felt comfortable taking him home like that for boarding at the very start when we were working on his aggressive stuff). But I bring him to group classes in it and reward him no problem in that setting. You can reward/feed them but it takes a little maneuvering like someone already mentioned because of where the holes are placed (or maybe it's just my dog has trouble figuring it out) so I usually have to kind of give him treats up and under through the larger bottom section. It's the one I use on my dog as needed and was recommended/sized by our trainer. I second the Baskerville suggestion (we have the ultra one I linked). I am training her on it indoors for very brief periods (you know put treats inside it to get her used to it etc) but haven’t used it for a walk yet since my trainer said not to walk her off our property until she sees us.

I bought one from pet supplies plus because it was quick and convenient but even though it’s adjustable it doesn’t really seem to allow full open mouth panting. my dog has been reactive but never aggressive in the past but now I probably need a muzzle to do our normal walks because the owner of the small dog asked me too plus now I’m nervous in general because we will just say it isn’t the first time I’ve seen an accidentally or on purpose other dog off leash in our neighborhood. I have an appointment with my trainer sept 7 and will ask her then but does anyone in the meantime have a recommendation for a type/ brand muzzle that works well for active dogs ? Background is my dog was on leash but bit a smaller dog that was accidentally running around off leash and ran up to her uninvited.
